Selling on Etsy can be a rewarding venture, but it's crucial to understand the various fees involved to maintain a profitable business. Etsy's fee structure includes listing fees, transaction fees, payment processing fees, and potentially advertising fees. Let's break down these costs and see how our software, Profittree, can help you manage them effortlessly.

1. Listing Fees

Every time you list an item for sale on Etsy, you incur a $0.20 fee. This fee is charged whether or not the item sells and lasts for four months or until the item is sold. If you decide to relist the item after this period, another $0.20 fee will apply (Etsy).

2. Transaction Fees

When an item sells, Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the sale price, including the shipping cost. This fee is deducted from your sales revenue before it reaches you.

3. Payment Processing Fees

If you use Etsy Payments to accept payments, there is a payment processing fee. This fee varies by country but generally includes a percentage of the total sale price plus a fixed fee per order. For example, in the United States, the fee is 3% + $0.25 per transaction

4. Advertising Fees

Etsy offers optional advertising services, including onsite Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads. With Etsy Ads, you pay to promote your listings within Etsy’s search results. Offsite Ads promote your listings across the web, and you only pay a fee when you make a sale from one of these ads. The fee for Offsite Ads ranges from 12% to 15% of the sale price. If you have made less than $10,000 in sales in a calendar year, offsite ads are optional and charged at 15% of the sale price. If you make more than $10,000 in a calendar year, if you choose to run onsite Etsy ads, offsite ads are automatically turned on and are no longer optional. Your fee also drops to just 12%. While this may seem high, it is a generally low ad cost % compared to other media buying options you have.

5. Other Potential Fees

Additional fees may apply if you use specific services or tools, such as currency conversion fees if your bank's currency is different from Etsy's payment currency, or shipping label fees if you purchase shipping labels through Etsy.
